Live Shameless dropped the official video for his newest single, The Resistance, off his most recent album, Awaken Souls.  Video is doughp, sound is doughp… just like the mixtape… which brings me to my next point…

On to the mixtape review!  This review was written by the Mixtape Messenger himself, Nasir The Don.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a huge fan of the current hip hop artists that are topping the charts today. I find the lyrical content lacking and I don’t like rhyming just for rhyme’s sake. I like MC’s who have something to say. And that is why I have been listening to “Awaken Souls” over and over for the last week.

Mc’s Justice and Daezon, members of Live Shameless Entertainment, have a style that brings me back to early 90’s hip hop. And that is a good thing.

The beats are really mellow and will have you nodding your head throughout the whole tape. The vibe reminds me A Tribe Called Quest and other conscious rappers from decades past. Both MC’s trade verses seamlessly and each one builds on the verse before.

“Basements” has that old school New York hip hop feel and sounds like it could have come off Nas’ “Illmatic.” The drums sound like the click-clacking of the subway while the melody is dreamy and you can picture tall buildings tough streets.

Other notable tracks include “Lost Shamans,” which could be the soundtrack for a late night smoking session, and “Universal Conquest,” which could easily become a New York anthem.

This is my kind of hip hop, there are no idiotic booty songs, no boasting about selling drugs or killing your enemy. What we have here is music that can speak to men and women, young and old, something for true hip hop fans. You can have those rappers with third grade vocabulary and nothing to say, I will take Justice, Daezon and Live Shameless Entertainment any day.

This tape is the real deal. Get it and share it.
